B2B Homepage Copywriting, Explained Line by Line

Your B2B homepage should identify the offer, explain its scope, provide evidence and make the next step specific. A buyer should be able to identify your offer before asking for a company profile.

A procurement lead lands on your homepage and finds “innovative industrial solutions”. They still need to know which equipment you supply, where you work and how to request a quotation.

Illustrative demonstration. The business and both versions below are fictional. This original copywriting exercise carries no client performance results. Assume the supplier sells centrifugal water pumps and provides installation and planned maintenance for factories in Lagos and Ogun.

1. Make the opening promise concrete

Before
“Engineering excellence through innovative industrial solutions.”

Rewrite
“Industrial water pumps, supplied and installed for factories in Lagos and Ogun.”

The opening names the equipment, the work, the buyer and the coverage area. “Supplied and installed” identifies the service being offered. “Factories” helps a procurement lead assess relevance. The location sets a practical boundary.

A buyer should be able to identify your offer before asking for a company profile.

2. Explain the service scope

Before
“We deliver comprehensive, end-to-end fluid management solutions.”

Rewrite
“We supply centrifugal water pumps, install them on site and provide planned maintenance.”

“Supply”, “install” and “maintain” give the buyer recognisable tasks to evaluate. “Centrifugal” identifies the assumed product category. “Planned” keeps the maintenance description specific.

The headline establishes relevance; the supporting sentence clarifies what an engagement can involve. Your technical team should verify every service and application named.

3. Show proof a buyer can inspect

Before
“Trusted by industry leaders for unmatched quality.”

Rewrite
“Pump installation for a manufacturing facility in Ogun. View the project scope, equipment supplied and handover checklist.”

The project is fictional. On a live homepage, this line needs an approved project behind it.

The wording tells a buyer what evidence they can review. A useful project note should explain the requirement, your contribution and the records available. Obtain permission for client names, photographs and documents before publishing them. Include results only when you can substantiate them.

Specific records give buyers something to assess. Check that each proof statement has approved evidence behind it. Follow Cold Open Lab on Instagram for more practical copywriting guidance.

4. Make the next step specific

Before
“Contact us today.”

Rewrite
“Request a pump quotation. Share your site location, application and any available equipment specifications.”

The first sentence names the action. The second helps the buyer prepare a useful enquiry. Link the instruction to a form or email route capable of receiving the information requested.

The label should describe the action the destination supports. Check that the form works and reaches the person responsible for enquiries.

How do plain language and technical accuracy work together?

Keep product categories, units, materials and operating limits accurate. Explain unfamiliar terms where they appear and link to relevant technical information for further detail.

You need clear language for specialist audiences, including explaining necessary specialist terms. For an industrial homepage, our application is to make the surrounding sentences straightforward while keeping the technical detail precise.

Have an engineer check product and service claims, then ask someone outside the technical team to explain the offer back to you. Their questions can reveal wording that needs attention.

Put the rewrite into practice

Start with an agreed list of products, services, applications, coverage limits and approved evidence. Draft the opening, service explanation, proof and enquiry prompt against those facts. Confirm the supporting pages and contact route are ready before publishing.
